SUNRISE - February 27, 2011

February 27, 2011 Sunrise 6:41 am

"If we would only give, just once, the same amount of reflection to what we want to get out of life that we give to the question of what to do with a two weeks' vacation, we would be startled at our false standards and the aimless procession of our busy days."  ~Dorothy Canfield Fisher

Old dogs can't learn new tricks. WRONG!  My recent whitewater rafting trip and my current  trip down rock-star-way has reminded me of all the possibilities out there to fill your life with living.

Up early this am after a late night.  Caught the SUNRISE at 6:41 am.  Thought briefly (about five nano-seconds) about adding skydiving to my list of life-enhancing adventures, but the 'fear of dying' outweighed the 'fear of flying'...ha. The amount of damage I would surely cause to the aircraft as I clawed my way down the side of the fuselage, wing, and tail  of the plane, screaming all the way, after the entire crew wrestled me to the floor of the aircraft and threw my quivering body out the open door at 8,000 feet would surely be cost prohibitive and take all the fun out of the experience.

So, I found an acceptable alternative.  Photos and review to follow.

The joy of skydiving without the 'fear of dying'.

 People Can Fly

"I'm an outdoor skydiver with 18 years and 3,500 jumps under my belt. While there is no experience quite like jumping out a plane, iFly SF Bay provides a totally authentic re-creation of the freefall experience. So authentic in fact that outdoor skydivers use facilities like this to train their flying skills for competition. You aren't competitive anymore unless you cross train indoors, it's that good. Any of the flying acrobatics you've seen can be safely learned and practiced indoors in a totally controlled environment. It's incredibly fun, totally spectator friendly, and accessible by people of all ages from three and up!  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED *Pros: It's real human flight in a safe environment"

"I have spent my days stringing and unstringing my instrument, while the song I came to sing remains unsung."  ~Tagore

"Many people die with their music still in them.  Why is this so?  Too often it is because they are always getting ready to live.  Before they know it, time runs out."  ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

Practiced a long time today.  The better I get learning my music, emphasizes just how much I don't know and much more I have to learn.

Lise's concert was tonight.  Beautiful evening, the auditorium brimming with talent, with evidence of time well spent, not a moment wasted.

SUNRISE - February 25, 2011

Lise and Sarah heading off
“God put me on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things.
Right now I am so far behind that I will never die.”
  -Bill Watterson [Calvin & Hobbs]

I have expanded the goal of playing 1 song live on stage to taping 8-10 and making a cd.  I know I can do this.  Just prodigious use of remaining time
It's not denial. I'm just selective about the reality I accept.”
-Bill Watterson [Calvin & Hobbes]

February 25, 2011 - Sunrise 6:43 am
I launched into the second edition ‘Robert Welton – I Remember’ legacy booklet…the next six chapters.  Should go a bit more quickly this time.  I am not inventing the format this time.  Should be ready next week.  Subscribers should get their copy soon.
“If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night,
I'll bet they'd live a lot differently.”

What a young girl can do with extra spare time
-Bill Watterson [Calvin & Hobbes]

Outstanding rainstorm this morning- supposed to snow on the valley floor by tomorrow night.  Storm cleared, sun came out – great beautiful mixture of big white marshmallow clouds and dark and stormy night clouds.  I understand a small tornado touched down about ten miles away.  All the seasons in about four hours.

Sarah has ballet lessons tomorrow and Lise has dress rehearsal in the morning and a concert tomorrow night.  I will get more hours of flight time to get my limo driver’s license.

SUNRISE - February 24, 2011

"Begin doing what you love now.
We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand,
and melting like a snowflake."  ... an inspirational plaque given to me from Nancy Loeffler.

How appropriate to find this wonderful gift in the mail when I got home tonight.  For eight years I have been volunteering to run business networking events for my company.  I love doing it, they are successful, but very time-consuming.  Recently, I gave up running the events and gave notice to end my participation.  I have made a lot of friends and it is  soul-satisfying to have tons of people be grateful and excited about the good results of your efforts.

Tonight was my last night for this event series.  It was perhaps one of the most successful I have coordinated in the last eight years.  It was very well attended, despite a steady rain.  I got lots of accolades and 'attaboys'.  Only a few people knew it was my last event.

Gift from Nancy Loeffler
I got home to my family at eight o'clock at night after a 7:30 am start.  I had mixed feelings about the decision.  I have so many things I wish to do with my time and when you find a conflict of ten things to do and only time for nine...you realize that your snowflake is melting and this is your moment in time.

What perfect timing to open the box and to know I made the right decision.  Thank you Nancy.

SUNRISE - February 23, 2011

How you spend your time is more important than how you spend your money. Money mistakes can be corrected, but time is gone forever.  - David Norris.

My son, Dustin, has been helping me get myself organized in my home office.  Instead of procrastinating about the many pending projects I have, I can now move ahead more efficiently.

Today we gathered an entire box of cables and cords and plug-in doo-dads, some from twenty years ago, so old that you couldn’t find anything alive to plug it into.  Goodwill donation.  The rest are all tagged and coded as to what they fit.

A wonderful HP Photo Printer that I bought for some serious money about 4 years ago has been sitting in my closet for 3.5 years, not working.  Works now.  Go, big D.

I can’t tell you how many times and how much time I have spent trying to accomplish what Dustin did in a few hours. A handy guy to have around.
