SUNRISE - June 17, 2011

"The race is not always to the swift, but to those who keep on running." ~Author unknown, in reference to Ecclesiastes 9:11, "I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all."

Daphne, the cat that rules the house had her first birthday yesterday with brownies for the guests and treats for the birthday girl and a serenade by Sarah on her new guitar.

Lise and I started our duo of 'House of the Rising Sun' -  electric bass and violin...actually sounds pretty cool.  Went to my lessons last night and my teacher played along on rhythm guitar...very nice.  As Lise tries to 'educate and clean me up' to be presentable, music wise...I am introducing a rock flavour to the mix...

I am pushing for this version of "House of he Rising Sun' by Pink Floyd.

Open mic night tomorrow - 'White Rabbit' debuts and a slicked up version of 'Smoke on the Water'.....oh, I am now going down the road to Da Doo Ron Ron- The Crystals....so, so retro and I am loving it - can you picture Sarah on vocals (I am thinking I can almost hear violin on this one...).

Sarah - Ballet Demonstration
5-14-11

Sarah- Principal Cellist
outdoor concert 5-14-11
Fantastic performing arts day for us Saturday.  Sarah played with her school orchestra at an outdoor concert at her school in the morning (very cold and windy), then off to her annual ballet demonstration dance for her class in the afternoon and then 'open-mic' night for May for Bob.  Performed 2 of his 3 song play list - a bit better than last time.  Goal is to have two new songs each month.

My teacher is going to help the 'Family Von Welton' with a Violin (or piano), Cello, Bass rendition of 'House of the rising Sun for the three of us to perform live at an upcoming open mic night.  How cool will that be?

SUNRISE - March 14, 2011

“I was thinking about how disjointedly time seemed to flow, passing in a blur at times, with single images standing out more clearly than others. And then, at other times, every second was significant, etched in my mind. “ - Stephenie Meyer, Twilight, 2005

Totally inspired by the recent chain of electric bass events, posting on YouTube and all.  Posted my other song I-IV-V Blues in A/Bob on BASS tonight. Played two of my three recital songs impromptu at open-mike night - they need some polishing, but feel good about the debut and breaking the ice of playing in public.  Start 'Smoke on the Water', my third song, tomorrow night.  Bomp Bomp Baaaa....Bomp Bomp Ba Baaaa....
