October 17, 2011 Sunrise 6:51 a.m.
"Saturday night is your big night. Everybody used to fry up fish and have one hell of a time. Find me playing till sunrise for 50 cents and a sandwich. And be glad of it. And they really liked the low-down blues."   Muddy Waters

The COOLEST experience ever, happened to me Saturday Night October 15, 2011.

Lise and Sarah performed with my little group 'Another Day In Paradise Band".  We covered "House of the Rising Sun"...me on Bass, Lise on Keyboards and Sarah at the mic with one of her friends.

Just got back from my music lessons.  Had a blast.  I have my three songs pretty well handled and I am still a month out for the performance (if I was a little kid, I would use the word 'recital').

I am hooked. I am doubling up on my lessons and will take another set on Thursday evenings while Sarah is in ballet. This set will be at a different studio that is set up with drums.  Just Drums and Bass.  I want to improve my rhythm.  Should be fun.  I still have TIME.

I got rhythm,
I got music,
I got my bass...
Who could ask for anything more?
apologies to Ella Fitzgerald....

SUNRISE -March 13, 2011

March 13, 2011 Sunrise 7:19 am (DST)
"Given enough TIME and enough guitar lessons, even a monkey could learn enough to play bass guitar in a band "  my variation on "Give an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters and they will eventually produce the works of Shakespeare."  - Thomas Huxley

"Give a 62 year-old man a 30-year-old Fender Bass (but still brand-new, because he didn't follow-up 30 years ago, because he had plenty of time and would eventually get around to it let him be grateful for still having some TIME and six months of lessons with some kind of urgency motivation and he will eventually play 'Some Kind of Wonderful' in a pick-up group on a Saturday night in March at a Straw Hat Pizza, somewhere in Northern California, record it, and put it up on YouTube for all the world to see."  Ha!  Dream on.

My music debut was not exactly a Shakespearean effort, but an still an achievement, not thought possible, just a few months ago. Listening (really listening) to "Live like you were Dying"  - Tim McGraw- is a great motivator  to complete those little parts of your story, still unwritten.

Last two things on my "It would be cool to say that I was published and was in a band on stage" list...one down and one to go.

April 30, 2011 - we are stepping it up to 3 songs with drums with lead and rhythm guitars.  If I keep up this pace, I shall surely top the charts by 2111.

"People are like stained - glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.  - Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

'Tis 5:20 pm. In about one hour, my guitar and I will be signing up for open-mike night at  a local pizza parlor.  My alternate universe desire to play in a rock band will take center stage.  More curious than nervous,  I am as prepared as I can be, considering I just picked this bass up six months ago and I can't read music.  Probably as good a litmus test for advancing Alzheimer's onset as any.  I have memorized my part and and as of 30 minutes ago, I could still remember what to play.
