SUNRISE - February 5, 2011

February 5, 2011 Sunrise 7:07 am
“I tend to live in the past because most of my life is there.” -Herb Caen

So, today I spent my time enjoying  the benefits of Free Museum Day in Sacramento.

The California Museum has an exhibit running now:

The Central Valley Turns On: Psychedelic Poster Art, 1965-1975

"The California Museum is proud to present an exhibit featuring poster art work from the 1960s and 1970s. The artwork promoting Psychedelic rock music was as revolutionary as the music itself: wild colors, strange images, dynamic composition, and hand-drawn lettering that could be either gracefully decorative or compacted into dense, nearly unreadable patterns.  This exhibit will feature promotional posters and handbills that originated from the dance and concert venues of the Central Valley many of which have not been publicly displayed since they were made in the 1960s and 1970s."

Sarah and Lise were off at a ballet lesson. I headed out to the museum. Once a month, the 25 museums in the Sacramento area offer free admission. I knew this exhibit was coming and I have been looking forward to it. Combined with free admission; how could I go wrong? This exhibit featured art and nostalgia from my younger era and coincidentally, also the last time I looked like I am looking now (except much, much younger) with the beard and pony tail.

As I entered the museum, a nice, older lady (I still can use that term) handed me a map. I asked where the 60's poster art exhibit was. She said: "Up the stairs and to the left, just keep going. You can't miss it. Enjoy reliving your past."

I did.

Some times, wasting your time isn't such a waste after all.

SUNRISE - February 4, 2011

February 4, 2011 Sunrise 7:08 am
I'm late, I'm late for a very important date
No time to say "Hello", "Goodbye"
I'm late, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late
And when I wave, I lose the time I save
My fuzzy ears and whiskers
Took me too much time to shave

I run and then I hop, hop, hop
I wish that I could fly
There's danger if I dare to stop
And here's the reason why
You see, I'm overdue, I'm in a rabbit stew
Can't even say "Goodbye", "Hello"
I'm late, I'm late, I'm late

...White Rabbit/Alice in Wonderland

Today's quote concerning time seems appropriate as it incorporates my challenge with just relaxing and doing nothing and my new hirsute pursuit of gifted time with a pony-tail and wow!-it-grew-back beard.

My fuzzy ears and whiskers
Took me too much time to shave

Good or bad, anxiousness has been a part of my life as time management, multi-tasking and trying to cram five pounds of life into a two pound bag has been part of my style for as long as I can remember.  This hyper-activity has provided me with enough successes to not be negatively swayed by my percentage of disasters.  There is a bit of a rush to pull off the impossible in not-enough-time.  I have a fond affection for the bespectacled White Rabbit.  I can relate.

SUNRISE - February 3, 2011

"You’re writing the story of your life one moment at a time."
Doc Childre and Howard Martin

 Day two with new hearing-aids.

When I departed the parking garage yesterday I noticed this little bell dinging to let pedestrians and bicyclists on the sidewalk near the exit know that a car was about to emerge from the opening.  I thought that was pretty cool and a good safety feature.

When I arrived this morning I mentioned it to the the valet guys and asked when had they installed that new feature.  With a straight face the young kid looked right at me and said" About seven years ago, sir."

It is like a new adventure every day - in stereo.  Now I find myself asking people to tone it down and speak more quietly.  Still, it is better than "Say again?"  I also find that I hear more than I need to know.

SUNRISE - February 2, 2011

February 2, 2011 Sunrise 7:10 am
“I have always felt that laughter in the face of reality is probably the finest sound there is and will last until the day when the game is called on account of darkness. In this world, a good time to laugh is any time you can.”   - Linda Ellerbee

I reclaimed my sense of hearing today, partly driven from my realm of senses by far too much loud rock - n - roll over the years.  Ironically, now that I am getting back into the possibilities of including loud guitar playing, I got fitted for hearing aids today to go along with my sight aids (tri-focals).

Gotta love modern science for our TIMES.  A hundred years ago I would have been a deaf and blind stand-up comic perhaps, without the marvelous benefits of current technology.

Actually, everything around me is a bit too loud now.  This sound of tapping on the keys on my keyboard is verging on being a bit unpleasant.  I had to decrease the sound level on the CD player in my car, when I left the clinic, by about half.

The elevator at my work is too loud.  I can hear everybody's conversation in the room like I am a spy (why do people talk so loud)?  The click - click - click of the wall clock is distracting.  I am told I will get over it in a couple of days and return to some version of selective hearing (but more clearly-ha).

Just one reason I am glad I have more time
Although I am pleased with the opportunity to say YES when someone says "Can you hear me now?" and will hopefully refrain from saying "Say again?" repeatedly to my family...I now have a higher regard for the essence of "Silence is Golden."

 The Mad Hatter:

Every face I see, the look is the same
But no one knows for sure
But one thing that I know, is all that you take
You give it back and more
Chorus:
Time, time, time, time, time (Just give me some)
Time, time, time, time, time (Just give me some)
Time, time, time, time, time (Just give me some)
Time, time, time, time, time
Give me some, give me some,
Just give me some, give me some, give me some time...
Give me some... [Tick tock - tick tock]

SUNRISE - February 1, 2011

February 1, 2011 Sunrise 7:11 am
“Man has always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much...the wheel, New York, wars and so on...while all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time.

But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man...for precisely the same reason.” - Douglas Adams

Just got back from my electric bass lesson.  We are getting ready for my recital in April...Narrowing my set down to three songs.  Probably open with "Some Kind of Wonderful", followed by "House of the Rising Sun" and end with "I - IV - V Blues in A"-our version rocks starts slow and picks up speed.

I figuratively float out of my guitar session.  I love it.  My teacher is instructing another student (a 37 year old pharmacist) on the same songs as  a drummer.  My teacher and his brother will play lead and rhythm guitars.

I had a good time tonight.  I had a really, really good time. I was a dolphin tonight.
