SUNRISE - February 7, 2011

Time Poem

To realize the value of one year:
Ask a student who has failed a final exam.

To realize the value of one month:
Ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby.

To realize the value of one week:
Ask an editor of a weekly newspaper.

To realize the value of one hour:
Ask the lovers who are waiting to meet.

To realize the value of one minute:
Ask the person who has missed the train, bus or plane.

To realize the value of one-second:
Ask a person who has survived an accident.

To realize the value of one millisecond:
Ask the person who has won a silver medal in the Olympics

Time waits for no one. Treasure every moment you have.
You will treasure it even more when you can share it with someone special. - unknown

SUNRISE - January 7, 2011

“You will never find time for anything.  If you want time you must make it.”  ~ Charles Buxton

I love this quote about the one power we do seem to have over TIME.  We can't make more hours literally, but we can enhance the value of the minutes we do possess.  Often we say we "would" or "could" do something different or become someone else or go somewhere exotic, if only we could just "find" the TIME.

The reality is that the TIME to do just about everything we wish is always there and is already ours for the taking.  We choose to use our TIME doing "A" while all the while wishing we had the time to do "B".  Others are spending their TIME living "B" while envying us for enjoying "A".  Inaction is the least productive form of action, but it is action nonetheless.

The key, it would seems is to look inward to what is really important for each of us.  The life that at the end of the day we will be satisfied with will beg the question: "Did we use our time wisely". Changing paths often, ever vigilant for the answer may the true path. We often travel the world over to find that we already had all that we ever sought.

SUNRISE - January 6, 2011

Sunrise for Earth
“Endeavor to so live that when you die even the undertaker will be sorry”. - Unknown

I was in business for myself many times for many years and harbor the remnants of each of those professions in not-so-carefully packed and stacked boxes in my closets and garage.  I used to be a carpenter, wood worker, clock maker, leather sandal/hat/purse/belt maker, silver, bead, puka shell, Navajo turquoise jewelry maker, and even deer antler pipe maker – all back in the day.  I kept all the remnants, part and tools because I had A-a bit of dated mastery over each and B - “if I needed to go back to work for myself’ – save for a rainy day, etc., etc.” there they would be – like a little gray-haired pack rat’s fantasy.

The last time I assessed my life – it was starting to drizzle. The parts are wearing out.  Time to break out the good china for weekly use rather than just two holidays a year.

Men talk of killing time, while time quietly kills them.  ~Dion Boucicault

SUNRISE - January 5, 2011

“Pick my left pocket of its silver dime, but spare the right - it holds my golden time!”  ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

How often have we/do we sell our golden time in exchange for  a silver dime?  The ultimate trick is to have a means of adequate ‘silver dime’ income to live by doing what you love enough to rationalize its depletion of your ‘golden time’, valued-moments bank account.

I am struggling with the concept of retiring – not because I have enough money – it is rather that I fear I won’t have enough TIME to finish all of my starts.  I have buckets of wooden ‘round to its’ strewn throughout my little kingdom.  I am desirous of getting to more of those little ‘round-to-its’, as they have no real value to anyone other than me.

I am thinking that I would like to become adequate (seriously, just adequate would be a grand achievement) at a myriad of personal desires, such as, building birdhouses, large decorative wall clocks, Chinese brush painting and calligraphy to name a few.  To blog all day and play good ol’ rock–n-roll bass guitar all night would be a lovely path to follow, as I slide inevitably down to the cliffs overlooking the sea.

[Note as it is my endeavor to post daily - i share that there was some dark wormhole in the internet universe last night and for the life of me could not get this to post.]
