SUNRISE - January 2, 2011

"Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right." - Oprah Winfrey

January 2, 2011 Sunrise 7:24 am
So, here we go.  We are off and running for another New Year.  I suppose some think their new year may be just another hopeless rendition of all the other years.  Some have ill regard for their past year and 'hope and pray' for a good year to replace the past year(s) disappointments.  Control what you can, absorb and use the rest.  Intend for your year to be better and good chances are - it just may turn out that way.  Magnetically speaking, attract what you want in your life with a positive attitude.

It is true that circumstances occur in each of our "year of TIME" that we cannot control.  Accidents, weather, the economy, taxes, or the passing of a loved one, are all pretty much beyond our ability to personally control.  We do, however, have a great deal of control over how we allow these uncontrollable events to impact our precious TIME and for the length of time we allow it to affect us.

Every golden moment of every day has its value.  How we decide to live that moment is truly ours, regardless of the circumstance of environment around us.  Great musical works of art were created by Jewish composers while interred in concentration camps during WWII; while others around them lived their days in dark despair.  The common man would never wish these conditions upon another human being, however, the unconscionable environment was the same for both.  The deciding factor was one of human choice, living by intent, exerting personal control over seemingly uncontrollable circumstances.

We should all live our lives with well-crafted intent.  We should intend to be happy and satisfied.  We should readjust our goals daily.  We need to constantly fine tune our goals and plans to get that 'radio dial signal' of control to be just right.  All musical instruments need to be regularly tuned to keep the sound the way it was intended.  We should re-tune our direction daily to be the instrument for which we were intended.
Sometimes a seemingly impenetrable roadblock will appear in your chosen path.  Accept the detour.  Make it your new path by choice, not by denial or submission.  Enjoy the scenery along the new way.  You just might find it a pretty good ride.

The Road not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
and sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
and looked down one as far as I could
to where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
and having perhaps the better claim
because it was grassy and wanted wear;
though as for that, the passing there
had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
in leaves no feet had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I --
I took the one less travelled by,
and that has made all the difference

...Robert Frost

“So often we allow life to dictate to us how we live and what we do. We become a victim of our own circumstances with no purpose, design or intent. Living a life of intent means we take charge of our lives and direct ourselves to whom and where we want to be. Intent won't just happen it takes effort and commitment.”

SUNRISE January 1, 2011

January 1, 2011 Sunrise 7:25 am
"Every man should be born again on the first day of January.  Start with a fresh page.  Take up one hole more in the buckle if necessary, or let down one, according to circumstances; but on the first of January let every man gird himself once more, with his face to the front, and take no interest in the things that were and are past."  ~Henry Ward Beecher

Made it!.  Going through some rather invasive Cancer treatment in the latter part of 2008, there were moments when I was confronted with deep and dark concerns about my limited future here on beautiful planet earth.  Due to the miracle of this era's modern medicine and to perhaps a certain extent, the power of positive thinking, I have arrived safe and sound, baggage in hand, eyes open in wonderment over the infinite possibilities of what 2011 will bring.

"The Old Year has gone.  Let the dead past bury its own dead.  The New Year has taken possession of the clock of time.  All hail the duties and possibilities of the coming twelve months!"  ~Edward Payson Powell

May we all successfully bury the old demons, embrace (with accolades to W.E. Henley) 'whatever Gods there may be', and stay and finish strong in our most precious endeavors.

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me, and I'm feeling' good." - Adam Lambert song

Happy New Year

SUNRISE - December 31, 2010

December 31, 2010 7:23 am
'Tis here.  New Year's Eve.  The last Sunrise and  Sunset of 2010.  I suppose on some obscure cultural or 4th dimensional calendar somewhere, it really is some other TIME marker, but I'm good with the 2010 marker using the Gregorian version.  New Year's Eve is the traditional moment, when, if one is of the mind to make reflections on the year's past deeds, promises kept and goals met or not, are reviewed and an updated with new, improved ambitious aspirations are considered and even verbalized.

"The object of a new year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul" - G.K. Chesterton

It is said that to truly give yourself the best chance of success in achieving the new year's destination, you should include these two caveats:

"A new year is unfolding - like a blossom with petals curled tightly concealing the beauty within." - Unknown

1.     Write it down.  There seems to be a powerful transference of proactive intent as the verbal word transcends to the written word.  Print it.  Post it.  Place copies where YOU can see them regularly (Consider posting where you can see it in the morning - bathroom, kitchen, clothes closet, steering wheel - or better yet, E-all of the above).  Reinforcement is the key to success.

"An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in.  A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves".  - Bill Vaughan
2.     Tell others.  This will keep you honest.  There is a greater incentive to keep up with your goals to also keep your word.  Your character is riding on keeping to the task you set out for yourself.

"Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past.  Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go."  ~ Brooks Atkinson

Enjoy - It is never too late for any of us to be the people we were meant to be.

"Don't let your New Year's resolution be something that goes in one year and out the other." – Unknown

1/1/11:  Tomorrow's sunrise will begin a new day as well as a new year - may all your goals be realized and that you successfully make TIME for all that is truly meaningful in your life.  Happy New Year!
